Congratulations to Bricklayer 500 Competitors, Mark Earwood and Kenny Fairweather
Seattle, WA - Congratulations to Mark Earwood and tender Kenny Fairweather who placed second in The 2011 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 Regional competition held in Seattle, Washington on August 12, 2011 at the Western Washington Trowel
Trades Training Center. Ten teams of brick masons and Tenders vied for a competition spot in the 2012 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 National competition held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Warm temperatures in the 70's and clear skies greeted the masons who gathered in Seattle to compete to be the best to construct a 26 ft. double wythe brick wall during a one hour long time period. Established to showcase the skill and craftsmanship of masonry, the general description
of the bricklaying competition is as follows: The contest requires all masons to meet the quality standards of the event. They have 60 minutes to complete their 26 foot 8 inch, double wythe brick wall. The competition has four awards; 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place are based on the highest brick count meeting the quality standards.
The 4th award, and arguably considered the most coveted price, the SPEC MIX TOP CRAFTSMAN is judged the most sellable wall over 500 brick. The walls are closely evaluated by 20 carefully selected masonry officials averaging 20 years of bricklaying experience. Many of the competitors feel winning the SPEC MIX TOP CRAFTSMAN award is their main goal, and it has the second highest award.
