Incorporating a 1918 terra cotta facade from the old Crystal Pool building into the 22-story Cristalla residential tower that was being built on the site was a challenge on this project.

We were able to preserve the terra cotta façade, during the demolition of the previous structure by using propped up braces during construction. Since the façade lacked a foundation, it also required support from vertical I-beams driven into the ground below. In addition the inside of the façade will be permanently reinforced with steel bars and shotcrete.
